Sofia Zoo is the oldest and the largest in the Balkans. It was founded in 1888 with the Decree of Prince Ferdinand, a nature lover with good knowledge in botany and zoology. During its 133 years of existence, it went through two world wars, changed location and became one of the most attractive places in Sofia and Bulgaria where one can see rare and endangered species such as snow leopard, sloth bear, Egyptian vulture and others which are part of the European education and conservation programs in which Sofia Zoo takes an active part.
Today, you can see animals from all over the world on an area of 360 decares - over 2000 specimens of 250 species. Sofia Zoo is one of the recognized hundred tourist sites in Bulgaria.

Sofia Zoo has two entrances and can be reached in the following ways: The central entrance /eastern one/ is located on "Simeonovsko shosse" Blvd. and it is reached by bus № 102 and 67 (stops on the road itself).
The western entrance is located on 1 Srebarna Street, Hladilnika and can be reached by bus № 120, 122, 93, 88, 83, 64, 66 (bus stop in front of the Zoo).
