SECOND FOLKLORE ASSEMBLY AT THE NARROW-GAUGE RAILWAY
On 10 and 11 of August, the meadows at the highest railway station on the Balkans, at the village of Avramovo, will host the Second National Assembly of Folk Art and the Friends of the Narrow-Gauge Railway. Named “With Song and Dance next to the Narrow Rails”, it is organised by the “Za Tesnolineykata” (i.e. for the narrow-gauge railway) non-profit public-benefit civil association.
The purpose of the event is to attract yet again the public interest of Bulgarians and foreigners to the wealth comprised by the narrow-gauge railway in the Rhodope mountains and to its fate nowadays. The civil association has been busy with this mission since 2016 and it has managed to waste no time in giving rise to the realization of a host of good practices related to the Little Railway.
Within two days, more than 320 amateurs from all over the country will perform for free on the stage of the assembly which will gather thousands of friends of the train from Bulgaria and abroad. Authentic Yakoruda dishes will be prepared by the industrious hosts for the guests at the assembly while for the evening the organisers promise a memorable “Rhodope Evening” with a large bonfire, favourite folk songs and mulled wine. The assembly will conclude on Sunday with the concert of the young performer from the town of Gotse Delchev – Denis Mahurov!
All those wishing to attend the event may use the narrow-gauge railway by purchasing their tickets in advance. Travelling with a private car is also possible. The accommodation options are in the adjacent towns of Yundola, Yakoruda and Velingrad or in a tent right next to the highest station where the assembly will take place.
